Como señala Nick Meglin en su libro, el placer de dibujar, aunque te compres la raqueta de tenis de Rafa Nadal, nunca podrás a jugar al tenis como él. Lo importante es tu mano, es decir lo que hayas aprendido para usarla. Pero creo que si sabes como trabajan los demás podrás orientarte. Y con el tiempo encontrar tu estilo.

Yarka Professional Watercolor Set — I have a small Van Gogh pocket set that I use when I'm out and about. Niji medium Watercolor Brush — I even use this at home in my sketchbook AND on my flower paintings. Pitt Artist Pens by Faber-Castell — These come in a set of four, but I never use the medium — just superfine, fine and brush. Pencil & Eraser — Yes, I usually sketch stuff out first, which I know some will see as "cheating". But then, it's my sketchbook, right? All of these products can be found at Dick Blick, although I get them at a local art store.

Con qué aprender a mirar.

He cambiado de libretas. Ahora me compro unas más baratas de Oxford, sin pretensiones. Se encuentran en cualquier librería y son de papel tipo folio con 90 g, (otras marcas de este mismo estilo tienen 60 u 80 g.). El objetivo es dibujar sin intención de hacer un gran dibujo, sino practicar para aprender formas, proporciones, relaciones, espacios negativos, trazos,etc. Sigo usando rotulador o pluma para no tener que corregir y aprender a realizar los dibujos de un solo trazo.

El blog de Cristina Jonsson es uno de los que visito asiduamente. Sus imágenes transmiten una idea muy personal de las ciudades que dibuja. Siempre transmiten mucha tranquilidad y sosiego, tanto en las escenas como en las composiciones.

I´m always searching for good sketchbooks and when I find something I like I buy it so I have plenty of books that are waiting for me. I tend to prefer square shaped books, with a threadbinding. My favourites measure about 25x25 cm. The binding allows me to draw over the back binding and since I often draw architecture I find that this format suites me. The paper must be opaque enough so I can draw on both sidesof the paper. That seem to be a problem tough. I sketch with a Pilot pen with reservoir tip, nothing fancy. But my bags tend to be filled with them. For many years I did nothing but watercolors but today I prefer these really fast sketches made on the spot. Back home I then scan the drawings I like and color them in photoshop. It´s important to me to keep the handmade feeling in the pictures especially since I color them digitally.


When I sketch freely I prefer town architecture and the busy life of the streets. That´s why most sketches in this blog features such places. If you havn´t been to Sweden these sketches might even give you a glimpse of what it looks like here.
